How we handle the sensitive data you entrust to CustodyBinder.

1. Overview
CustodyBinder is operated by Unmasked Logic, LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information about you when you use custodybinder.com and the CustodyBinder application (collectively, the "Service").
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not share your case documentation, journal entries, or evidence files with anyone except the service providers listed in this policy and people you explicitly invite to your account.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information - name, email address, password, and state of residence
- Case data - journal entries, incident records, exchange logs, communications, and any other documentation you create in the app
- Uploaded files - photos, videos, audio recordings, documents, and other evidence files you attach to records
- Children's information - names, ages, and related details you enter to organize your case
- Payment information - processed by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers
- Communications - emails you send to our support team
Information collected automatically
- Log data - IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited, and timestamps
- Usage data - features used, actions taken, session duration, and interaction patterns
- Device information - device type, screen resolution, and browser version
- Geolocation - precise location when you use features that require it (exchanges, incident recording), with your explicit permission
3. Cookies and tracking
Essential cookies
- Session cookies - required for authentication and maintaining login state
- CSRF tokens - required for form security
Analytics
- Google Analytics 4 - we use Google Analytics (property G-KYJM24HHYP) to collect aggregate usage information including page views, session duration, traffic sources, and general user interactions on the marketing site. Google Analytics may collect your IP address, which Google processes in accordance with their privacy policy. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
What we do not use
- No advertising cookies or retargeting pixels
- No social media tracking cookies (Meta Pixel, etc.)
- No third-party data brokers
4. How we use your information
- Providing and operating the Service - documentation, evidence storage, AI-assisted features, and reporting
- Processing payments and managing subscriptions via Stripe
- Sending transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, billing receipts)
- Sending product updates and newsletters to users who opt in - unsubscribe available at any time
- Improving the Service through aggregate analytics and error monitoring
- Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, or security incidents
- Responding to support requests
- Complying with legal obligations
5. AI and your data
CustodyBinder uses third-party AI services for features such as transcription, document parsing, tagging, and report generation. Current providers include:
- Google Gemini - document analysis and AI-assisted features
- Anthropic Claude - content analysis and generation features
- OpenAI Whisper - audio and video transcription (self-hosted)
When you use AI-powered features, relevant portions of your case data are transmitted to these providers to generate outputs. Only the data necessary for the specific feature is transmitted.
We do not use your case data to train AI models. Our AI providers are contractually bound not to use customer API data for model training by default.
AI outputs - summaries, suggested tags, and analysis - are organizational tools to help you and your attorney. They are not legal analysis and should not be treated as legal advice.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell your data. We share data only with:
- People you invite - lawyers, family members, or others you explicitly add to your account, with the access level you set
- AI providers (Google, Anthropic) - case data necessary to operate AI features
- Payment processor (Stripe) - billing information for transaction processing
- Hosting and infrastructure providers - data stored on infrastructure necessary to operate the Service
- Analytics providers (Google Analytics) - aggregate usage data from the marketing site
- Email delivery provider - email addresses for transactional and marketing emails
- Legal requirements - if required by law, court order, or governmental authority
- Business transfers - if Unmasked Logic, LLC merges with or is acquired by another company, you will be notified before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy
7. Children's information
CustodyBinder is a tool for adults managing custody cases. You may enter information about your children as part of your case documentation. We treat children's personal data with additional care:
- Children's data is used only to operate the Service for you
- We do not use children's data for analytics, advertising, or AI training
- We comply with applicable children's data protection requirements including COPPA
CustodyBinder is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data directly from anyone under 18.
8. Data retention
Your account data and case documentation are retained while your account remains active. Upon account deletion, personal data is deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate purposes such as fraud prevention or financial records. Aggregated, anonymized data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including:
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted storage for sensitive data at rest
- Tamper-evident logging with cryptographic hashing for evidence records
- Secure authentication with hashed passwords
- Regular security monitoring
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we prioritize protecting your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication when available.
10. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including:
- Access - request a copy of personal data we hold about you
- Correction - request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion - request deletion of your data
- Data portability - export your case data in a structured format
- Objection - object to or restrict certain types of processing
- Withdraw consent - withdraw consent where processing is based on it
California residents have additional rights under the CCPA. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@custodybinder.com. We respond within 30 days.
11. International users
The Service operates from the United States. Data from outside the United States is transferred to and processed in the U.S. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy over time. For material changes we will notify account holders by email at least 14 days before changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
